I would not have believed it, but one of the stinkiest herbs I have ever smelled is also very effective as a cure for insomnia.
The Valerian Root herb has been used to treat insomnia for a very long time – according to some records, it was used as early as Hippocrates in 460BC. It was also noted back then that it has a rather unpleasant smell.

One of perhaps the more obvious causes of sleeplessness is tension. That feeling that you just can’t relax and feel ‘twitchy’ as you lie in bed trying to sleep.
